ABOUT JO
Jo Willans is a music teacher and performer. She is highly qualified, having completed a Master of Music Studies at the Queensland Conservatorium in 2008. Jo studied with soprano Dr. Margaret Schindler, and has specialties in vocal pedagogy, opera and piano performance, and musicology. With 24 years of teaching experience, mainly in Brisbane’s Conservatoriums, elite schools and churches, Jo draws on her wide musical study to give her students a quality musical education, whilst catering for their tastes and interests.
Jo is interested in peak performance and performance psychology and works with students to develop their success and confidence. Several of Jo's students have undertaken tertiary music studies at Australian music schools, studying opera, musical theatre and pedagogy and have professional careers. Jo works with students of all levels, offering a nurturing studio for the beginner to the aspiring professional.

Jo also loves to nurture students whose interest in singing is more for personal development and enjoyment. She loves to see students' exploration of their voices and music, whether their focus is performance or personal development (or both!).
Jo's additional acting training has led her to offer voice lessons to actors and professionals wishing to optimise vocal and presentational skills. Jo loves to explore what speech skills can offer professionals like teachers, salespeople, lawyers and many others.
Jo has a busy life as a performer, singer, arranger, and writer. Her adventures have included operas such as The Medium, Orpheus in the Underworld, Les Mamelles de Tiresias and A Midsummer Night's Dream. She has performed leads in many musicals including Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, HMS Pinafore, Annie, The Music Man and many others. She is a founding member of Australian all-girl vocal quartet Belladiva and has toured Queensland three times. Jo also founded immersive production company Republic of Song and is the Creative Director.
